Natural Plastic

The following is a summary of my photographic series-

The photographic series “Natural Plastic” is made up of 7 photos taken to highlight the current problem the world has with one use-plastic.

Since the 1950’s over 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic has been produced, only 9% of which has been recycled. As well as this in the last 50 years world plastic production has more than doubled! These are two of many reasons I felt it was important to use my project to bring this issue to light. The idea of the series is to show that society has become so use to seeing litter that it now seems natural and we do not even notice the copious amounts of waste and plastic pollution. To help highlight the sense that people see litter as a natural thing I targeted waste in natural environments such as trees and bushes. I felt the juxtaposition between something natural like a tree or a bush with something unnatural like plastic bottles and bags would help open the viewers eyes to our current problems with plastic. I also felt that having a bleak colour palette throughout my series would show the audience that it is a serious theme and not light-hearted.
