When creating a Geolocated story it is vital to take care in not only the dialogue, but the background noise as well. If your whole story is just dialogue between one or two people it is clear the audience will get bored easily after hearing the same voices going back and fourth, it will also make your story more of a podcast than an immersive tale. This is why it is important to have a variety of both diegetic and non-diegetic audio due to the fact that “Quite often, just by listening to the background noise, we can determine in what kind of place/landscape we are, and what kind of objects/persons are there and where in relation to us” (Indans, Hauthal, & Burghardt, 2018) This shows for the story to be truly immersive the listener must hear more than the ‘first layer’ of sound in the story world. To help achieve this the story teller can add background noise such as traffic, distant talking or shouting, weather noises such as rain and wind etc. In conclusion to create a geolocated story that immerses the listener the creator must look at the different layers of audio such as main dialogue and also background noise.
