Before we started looking for potential locations we agreed on a few things our locations would need. One of the main factors we took into account for our story was the fact that it was a historic piece we knew we should find somewhere with history for our tale to take place. Taking this into account me and Eliot jumped in teams call together and looked at Southampton on Google Maps. We used Google Maps as neither of us were in Southampton to start off with due to Covid. During this time we looked at areas near West Quay where the Southampton town wall was. We looked at different areas knowing when we were both in Southampton we could look at these places in more detail.
Once we were back in Southampton me and Eliot walked along the town wall and found the places we would use. As soon as we arrived at the wall we knew it was the perfect place for our story to take place. This is because it shows exactly what we visualised in our heads and showed the rich history of the town. Once we decided on the area our story would take place we decided to narrow it down the exact spots each audio chapter would happen. Their were a few things to take into account when doing this to make sure we created both an immersive and safe audio experience however. For example we knew it had to be in an area that our listener would feel safe and not threatened. We also had to look at factors such as the time it takes to walk to and from the areas. We had to make sure the areas were close to one another. This is important else the listeners would have long gaps of silence between each audio chapter, this would ultimately result in a bored audience. Thankfully however we now feel that we have found the perfect locations for each of our chapters where our audience will be immersed and most importantly be safe.
